Good Friday – March 21, 2008

It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified him. (Mark 15:25)

Surely he has borne our infirmities
and carried our diseases;
yet we accounted him stricken,
struck down by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions,
crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the punishment that made us whole,
and by his bruises we are healed.
(Isaiah 53:4-5)

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land* until three in the afternoon, (Luke 23:44)

All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have all turned to our own way,
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
(Isaiah 53:6)

And about three o’clock Jesus cried with a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? and breathed his last. (Matthew 27:46 and 50b)

By a perversion of justice he was taken away. (Isaiah 53:8)

********************************

What we can say facing the death of the San of God on the cross? The only one reaction could be the silence full of grieve and pain.

God died, but did He not died also in my life?
He is dead for so many people, for so many cultures, for so many societies. By a perversion of “justice”, ………contemporary justice He is taken away from the life of so many people ……

Is He not dead also for me? Did He not die already in my life?
